According to the Programme of Bulgarian Government, Bulgaria 's integration into the European Union means not only full membership - it means, in fact, integration of people.
One of the ways to achieve full integration into United Europe is to follow the model of the most developed and leading countries and regions in the Community, as well as to actively cooperate with them. In this context, AASIE is a typical example of effective cooperation.
Association for Advanced Studies, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AASIE) was established with the active participation and by model of GrunderRegio M – Munich and serves as an integral part providing the communication and cooperation between Bulgarian and foreign organizations, academic or state institutions, representatives of science, industry and entrepreneurship in order to be used the best known European practices in the establishment of favorable conditions and in the assistance for the successful realisation of young Bulgarian professionals graduated from universities at home or abroad.
GrunderRegio M aims at encouraging the most effective practices and drawing in individuals for the establishment and growth of structures in Eastern Europe allowing the development of entrepreneurship and assisting newly established university spin-offs in their first steps and consolidation in the common European area. The first step was the election of Bulgaria in 2003 for Associate Region to the PANEL network coordinated by GrunderRegio M, a two times winner of the Award of Excellence for Innovative Regions of the European Commission.
PANEL (Providing Access and Networking of Entrepreneurial) project is one of the European networks within the European Community that integrates the regions of Barcelona , Dublin , Milan and Munich . It works in the framework of a greater project, known as PAXIS.
By the EU side in 1998 was created the PAXIS initiative - (?he Pilot Action of Excellence on Innovative Start-ups) , which integrates 22 key European cities and regions in the Network of Regions of Excellence and The best practices, and aims at promoting the most effective models of establishment and development of new enterprises.
Establishment of innovative enterprises, encouragement of spin-offs and development of start-ups are among the main political objectives not only of the European union, but also world wide. PAXIS fosters the establishment of such innovative enterprises all over Europe as a moving power to assure employment and economic growth.
Bulgarian cities and regions have their chance to be involved in the activity of the PAXIS network through successful transfer of the most effective models of encouragement of start-ups, kept close to the knowledge-based economy.
First and very successful step in this course was the organization with the participation of AASIE of European Entrepreneur's Day in 2003 and in 2004 - www-it.fmi.uni-sofia.bg/ede2004 /, which proved to be a unique event in the Balkans and became a model to many European countries, now with a tendency to become a common European forum favoring to the greatest extent all participants.
Within the framework of PAXIS in March 2004 was held the first visit of Bulgarian delegation to Munich, Bavaria, as one of the regions of Excellence where the biggest group (more than 2400), of Bulgarian BA, MA and PhD students have been educated. This initiative was supported by the Bavarian government and the delegates were introduced into the principles and main activity of the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Munich (KFT) – one of the biggest technological offices in Germany, also they were introduced into the Munich Business Plan Competition – one of the most successful business models in the world, and then the delegates were acquainted with the “GATE-Garching” Incubator, closely related to the Technical University – Munich. Perspectives of more active cooperation and collaboration between Sofia and the PANEL network as part of PAXIS were also discussed.
